I learned a lot from reading other posts about screencasting before getting started. I had gotten the extension for Snagit earlier, and the posts I read seemed to indicate that this was going to be the best option.
It took me a while to figure some things out - I kept searching for help for issues I was having and figured most of it out. In the help videos from Techsmith they say to get both the app and the extension. I only had the extension, so looked for the app and it didn't come up. I was able to use Snagit anyway, but I wonder if I would have more options with the app?
These are the points that I know I need to use in order to be successful with Screencasting:
*use a script.
*find a quiet place.
*make sure I have enough time to get it right.
I chose to make a Screencast to help parents understand RAZ-Kids and how to use it at home. Because there is a class list attached to my name, this shows on my Screencast (first name and last initial only). I need to decide how public this Screencast can be based on sharing my teacher username for RAZ-Kids and my class list.
Here is my Screencast:
Parent Raz-Kid Introduction
In the future, I would like to learn how to use the editing options. It looks like you can make these screencasts pretty engaging!
I did get MV Youtube account set up. I have never loaded anything into Youtube, so am a little nervous about making sure I use the settings correctly so parents, students, and colleagues can view, but no one else.
Here is my Youtube URL
I don't know if I used the privacy setting correctly and if it will be viewable on this Blog through the link.
Your screencast turned out great! This is a very timely screencast to create. I've had a lot of teachers asking me for more information about razkids, but I haven't seen it myself. I agree with you that screencasting can be time-consuming, especially if you are a perfectionist. Other teachers have said that it gets easier to do over time, but I'm not sure if I believe them. :) As for your Youtube, it's set too private for us to view on your blog. My tip is to try sending someone your links or to open them yourself in a different browser, not logged in to Google or Youtube to see if people will be able to open your link. You want it to be viewable by anyone who has the link, which will be the safest yet accessible setting.
