Activity #6

I finally went back to this activity after starting it in a TIES class several weeks ago.  I really like the ability to have students respond on Google Docs individually.  I also like the ability to have a set of resources that students have access to both at home and at school.  I also added a link on the About tab for parents who might want to see the third grade social studies standards, which means I would include the class code on my teacher website for parents.  Mostly - I was excited to find the text-to-speech add-on because I thought the reading I had assigned might be above the level of my third grade students.   Using ISpeak, students simply highlight the text they want read to them.  The voice is much more natural sounding than I've heard in previous text-to-speech pieces.  Let me know if you want me to add you to the Google Classroom I created for students to explore the Anasazi.  I believe this fits into the third grade standards.

  1. I'm sorry my assignment is late - but I just turned it in! I tried to find iSpeak but only came across an Android app. Are you using Speakit? Or how did you find it? That sounds like a great resource! I like your idea of sharing resources with parents. I will check to see if parents can be added as students in your class. I'm not sure if someone with an outside email address can do that, but I will ask.

    1. Susan got back to me already - parents can't enroll in your Classroom, since they don't have a MVGmail account. You could have students show parents or share their login information, but the parents themselves can't create accounts.

  2. Oooh, I was excited about the possibility of sharing the class code for parents to join and see, as that had never occurred to me. Makes sense that they can't given that they don't have a MV e-mail. For my screen capture lesson, I created a google classroom tutorial guided towards parents and at home use if you want to check it out.
